NICHOLS MIDDLE SCHOOL
Year One 2015 - IDENTITY
Theatre and Poetry
Students explored the Identity of themselves, their peers, and their classroom. Through visual mapping and poetry on our feet through tableau/statue work, residency culminated with original group poems about identity performed in front of the class. Culminating Poetry Night was held at SPACE in Evanston to celebrate the work of the 8th graders at Nichols.
Year Two 2016 - PERSPECTIVE
Theatre and Dystopia
Students explored the dystopian unit through the Big Idea of perspective. Students explored the idea of perspective on their feet, through text analysis, and eventually through writing a monologue from the perspective of one of the characters in the dystopian novel they were reading. Students were allowed to choose their own book from a list of dystopian novels which created a varied culminating performance of monologues and perspectives from different characters living in different dystopian worlds.
Year Three 2017 - SOCIAL JUSTICE/INJUSTICE
