I have recently been working with a wonderful group of artists on this incredibly important work of theatre. Exploring stories of victims and survivors of sexual assault and using theatre as a medium to bring about conversation and change. Directed by Alyssa Vera Ramos and Cathy Musket.
THE SCARLET "S" is a theatre piece and extended community project about the intersection of sexuality, shame, and consent -- or lack thereof -- in our world of bitch cups and dick pics.
It's about how we brand young women with SHAME -- for being sexual, for "transgressing," for presuming their bodies and choices will be respected and safe.
It is about "slut". It is about rape. It is about alcohol. It is about suicide. It is about "shouldn't."
It is about Rehtaeh Parsons, Daisy Coleman, Audrie Pott, and Jane Doe of Stuebenville.
As artists, community members, & activists we must ask: What now?
